Nushagak River Fishing Report

Nushagak River King Salmon 2020

Nushagak River Fishing Report: June 23, 2020

The Kings Are In!

With the adjustments to the traveling mandates to include testing before visiting, we have been able to start our season off on the Nushagak River. There have been wonderfully nice weather days and plenty of fish to make us lose track of counting how many we caught!

So far, the commercial fishing has not begun in the district so we have been lucky to intercept the King Salmon shiny, chrome and bright with hardly any net scars. They have been putting up quite the fight! As of June 23, 2020 at 3 pm, the cumulative Nushagak river sockeye escapement is 73,905 and the cumulative Nushagak King Salmon escapement is 10,979.

With the short notice to operate, many outfitters on the Nushagak system have not been able to open in time for the season. We are sorry for the loss of income for the camps and guides as well as the local community and we hope that our fellow comrades can be back on the river next season.  In the meantime, it has created a very quiet scene on the waters of the Nushagak and we are surprised at the different of an experience it is compared to normal years. To fish with hardly any boats around on this river is truly wild.

We would love to have you or your friends join us for the remaining openings, so please pass along our to your family & friends and come fish the world's largest run of king salmon on the Nushagak River!
