As the new Head Guide at Bear Trail Lodge this year, I’ve been swamped with organizing guides, guests, and gear. It’s quite the challenging position that keeps me busier than I thought possible. I also guided folks on the Naknek River most of July and enjoyed beautiful sunny weather and rather good King Salmon fishing. The highlight of the month was hosting and guiding a group of women from Project Healing Waters. We caught some beautiful King Salmon and spent a little time fly fishing catching grayling on dries in the hot sunshine. I am so honored to have gotten to spend three days with these women who have served our country and are real heroes. Their stories inspire me. Here is the link to a news video about this trip: VIDEO LINK

I’m also excited to see the cover of Fish Alaska. Nanci, Justin, and the publisher of Fish Alaska, Melissa Norris, sneakily put this together and surprised me with a cover shot! I’m so thrilled to be on their cover. I fished with Melissa and her husband, Wayne, last fall on the Naknek, and essentially I met my long lost sister. Plus we fished, hunted, and laughed A LOT. And now, Wayne is one of my hunting gurus.

And lastly, Salmon Steelhead Journal published a story I wrote about superstitions. It’s been a long time in the works and I’m doubly excited to see it in print in such a quality magazine. You may not believe this story is true, but scout’s honor, it is. All of it.

Justin and I are looking towards our winter season and already filling up Christmas Island in January 2014 and starting to fill our Steelhead Fishing dates in February and March. If you are interested, shoot me a message on our contact page for details.

We both hope you are having as adventurous and fun of a summer as us! If you want to fish Bristol Bay for big Rainbow Trout this fall, we have a few openings at the lodge in late September and early October.  Message me if you are interested.
